Key Decisions (2)
Douglas County Biochar Facility at 5675 Delva Way
Approved location and extent application for construction of a biochar facility within Sedalia Business Park on a 26-acre unplatted parcel. The facility will accept woody biomass from wildfire mitigation and forest health work, consolidate county slash/mulch drop-off functions, and produce biochar through pyrolysis. Includes 60x120 ft enclosed process building, 60x160 ft open-sided storage shed, and outdoor staging areas. Approximately $8 million total investment. Facility will process 10,000 tons of logs annually (expandable to 20,000 tons). Dan Roberts with Douglas County Public Works Operations is the county representative.
High Line Canal Origin Trailhead Improvements
Approved location and extent application for improvements to the High Line Canal Origins Trailhead north of Waterton Road and south of Chatfield State Park on approximately 0.19 acres. Project includes parking lot resurfacing and realignment with 2-3 trailer spaces, ADA-accessible trail improvements, restroom facility (porta-lette with metal structure), shade/pause structure with scenic views, and interpretive signage about canal history. Total cost approximately $600,000 ($450,000 from Open Space Tax Fund, $150,000 from High Line Canal Conservancy). Construction planned for summer with projected opening in 2027.
