Sale of city-owned surplus property to Long Beach City College for student housing
Sale of city-owned exempt surplus property at 5870 Atlantic Avenue, 5885 Lyme Avenue, and 5895 Lyme Avenue (just north of Michelle Obama Library) to Long Beach Community College District for $1,435,000 to develop 22 units of affordable student housing (mix of studio, one and two bedroom units). LBCC investing $55 million of Measure AC and Measure LB funds. Also approved MOU for city use of LBCC parking lots (10 city use days over 10 years) and First Amendment to facility use agreement for 635 South Street (North Long Beach Higher Education Center) with LBCC contributing $40,000 toward operational costs. Councilmember Thrash Ntuk recused.
- Restrictive covenant requiring property be used for student housing for no less than 15 years; escrow to close in approximately 8 months; parking use days may not be scheduled during 2028 Olympic Games period (July 14-30, 2028)
