Recommendation to remove 'Cesar Chavez' name from Cesar Chavez Boulevard

The Commission voted to recommend to City Council that the name Cesar Chavez Boulevard be removed from the street currently known as Cesar Chavez Boulevard, without endorsing the proposed substitute name Campesinos Boulevard and leaving the substitute name and a fuller public-outreach process to City Council. Item stems from Ordinance document 2026-171, which proposed renaming NE and SE Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard to Campesinos Boulevard and waiving City Code sections 17.93.010-17.93.050. PBOT Director Millicent Williams estimated implementation at roughly $1 million over about two fiscal years along the 5.5-mile corridor. Vote 9-0.
