Expansion of Landmark No. 307 (Compton's Cafeteria riot site) at 101-121 Taylor Street

Ordinance amending landmark designation No. 307 to include the entire building exterior at 101-121 Taylor Street (site of Compton's Cafeteria riot) and expand the period of significance. Committee adopted clerical amendments to the original file, duplicated the file, amended the duplicate to add a ninth findings clause urging reconsideration of scope if new interior evidence becomes available, continued the duplicate to call of the chair, and sent the original amended file out as a committee report with positive recommendation. Interior spaces excluded because GEO Group (building owner) denied access. All votes 3-0.

  • Clerical amendments to original file (page 4 line 10, page 8 line 6)
  • ninth findings clause added to duplicate urging Planning Dept and HPC to reconsider scope if new evidence of character-defining features becomes available
  • duplicate continued to call of the chair
